The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Mercy Adu-Gyamfi also known as Ama Sey, has finally addressed reports that she is quitting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and going independent.
After she lost the NPP primaries in the constituency, Ama Sey complained about the election being rigged and asked for a recount, which was rejected by the party offcials.
Her loss has divided the NPP supporters in Akwatia, some of who urged her to run as an independent candidate.
At a press conference held in her office on Friday afternoon, Ama Sey confirmed that she took the decision to run as independent candidate because her supporters urged her to go.
She disclosed that after that decision, many prominent people in the country have spoken to her to rescind her decision.
She revealed that after several meetings with President Akufo-Addo and his wife, she has rescinded the decision to go independent.
She apologized to her supporters for breaking their hearts with her decision adding that it feels so painful to be cheated in election.
Ama Sey urged her supporters to massively vote for President Nana Akufo-Addo to win the December 7 polls.
