J Initiative enlightens GJA members on child online protection

part of World Vision Ghana’s mission to improve child protection reportage in the country, a capacity building workshop for the Upper East Regional branch of Ghana Journalists Association has been held.

Awo Aidam Amenyah, Executive Director of J Initiative (JI) and a partner of World Vision Ghana, took the journalists through the Child Online Protection Initiative and the role of journalists in the wake of the new media.

She stressed on the need for journalists to be empathic and circumspect in their reportage to help make the internet space safe for all especially children.

She appealed to the media to help reduce the influx of child abuse imageries which have mostly been obtained on ignorance.

On his part, Mr. Mac Kwami who stood in for the Ghana Journalists Association President Affail Monney underscored the need for journalists to have in mind the best interest of the child in the course of their work since children are the future of Ghana.

Speaking on behalf of the Country Director of World Vision Ghana, the communications manager Mr. Washington Nuworkpor reiterated their interest in making issues of children visible and audible in Ghana.

The training will be replicated in all World Vision Ghana’s Area Development Programs.
