Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Joeboy has embarked on a new chapter in his career, departing from Mr Eazi’s label EMPAWA and signing a landmark dual deal with global music powerhouse, Warner Music. This move not only sees him become Warner’s newest flagship artist from Africa but also marks the launch of his independent label, “Young Legend” as he marked 5-years in the music industry.
Joeboy’s 5-year tenure with EMPAWA proved highly successful, yielding two widely acclaimed EPs (“Love & Light,” “Body, Soul & Spirit”), two full-length albums (“Somewhere Between Beauty & Magic,” “Body & Soul”), and a string of chart-topping singles and collaborations. This amassed him a staggering 2 billion cumulative streams across digital platforms, solidifying his status as an Afrobeats powerhouse.
Warner Music has artists such as Ed Sheeran, Cardi B, Burna Boy, and Ckay.
With “Young Legend,” Joeboy takes the reins as CEO, partnering with Deola Jaiyesimi as Head of Label.
Their mission: to cultivate and launch the next generation of Afrobeats superstars on a global scale.
This move echoes the legacy of industry icons like Olamide, Don Jazzy, and even Joeboy’s former label boss, Mr. Eazi, all of whom have established successful platforms for nurturing new talent.
Joeboy’s decision signifies not only a personal leap of faith but also a bold venture into label ownership.
Joeboy’s partnership with Warner Music provides him with a powerful platform to expand his reach and influence, while “Young Legend” offers him the freedom to shape the sound and future of Afrobeats. This dual approach positions Joeboy for continued success and solidifies his status as a leading figure in the genre’s global ascent.
