John Stones joins Manchester City from Everton in £47.5m deal

Manchester City have completed the £47.5million signing of Everton defender John Stones. Pep Guardiola has been on the tail of the England international all summer, but Stones has finally penned a six-year deal after weeks of speculation.

He becomes the eighth new player through the door following the arrivals of of Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito, Aleksandar Zinchenko, Aaron Mooy, Leroy Sane, Gabriel Jesus and Marlos Moreno.

Stones, who will wear No 24, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to sign for City and now the deal’s done I’m looking forward to the next stage in my career.

“I’ve obviously seen what’s going on here at the Etihad, it’s an ambitious Club with a great manager so I can’t wait to get stuck in and help achieve the goals.

“I know it will be tough getting a place in this team but I’m determined to become the best player I can be and help us to success.

“I had a wonderful time with Everton and wish them and their fans all the best but now I’ll give my all for City.”

The news of Stones’ switch was leaked by UEFA on Tuesday morning, with the centre-back listed on City’s squad list.

And the club have now confirmed the former Barnsley youngster has penned a long-term deal at the Etihad.

Everton will pocket a massive profit on Stones, who moved to Goodison Park for a package worth £3million from Barnsley in 2013.

The 22-year-old played 95 times for the Toffees, scoring one goal. His exploits for the Merseyside oufit earned him a call-up to the full England squad.
