Church members of the International God’s Way Church have stoned journalists, who have gone to the Nima Police Station in Accra to report on the happenings on the arrest of their leader Bishop Daniel Obinim.
Onua FM’s reporter Omari Acheampong had his mobile phone seized by some members while stones were thrown at a camera man of the First Digital TV.
The members also prevented the media from either taking shots of them or recording their voices.
The incident happened when the wife of Bishop Obinin, Florence Obinim, arrived at the Nima Police Station to see her husband, who is currently in police custody over an alleged fraud.
The Nima Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Francis Ntow, said Bishop Obinim is at the police station just for safe keeping.
He said they are not the right command to prosecute the pastor but the national CID will do so.
Supt Ntow confirmed that Boshop Obinim has been charged with fraud.
Scores troop to Nima Police station
Scores of people thronged the Nima Police Station in Accra to rally support for the controversial pastor.
The Police arrested Obinim on Tuesday.
The people, who arrived at the station in buses, sang Christian songs, Onua FM’s Omari Acheampong reports, and lawyer for Obinim, Samuel Atta Akyea, was also at the Police station.
The Police had to calm the crowd at some point after signals were picked they wanted to go wild.
Mr Atta Akyea told Onua FM’s reporter the issue is not something serious and was optimistic of securing a bail for Bishop Obinim.
The lawyer said he has seen Bishop Obinim and his junior pastor and they were all fine and smiling.
