Ghana’s contingent in Rio for the 2016 Olympics will see the nation’s flag rise on Monday as Swimmer Kaya Forson begins her chase for gold.

The 14-year old switched nationalities after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) approved her father’s request for the swimmer to represent Ghana at the international levels.

Forson, who held both a Canadian and a Spanish passport earlier, will contest in Heat 1 of the Women’s 200m freestyle swimming at the Games, which officially started on Friday.

She will compete with India’s Shivani Kataria and Matelita Buadromo of Fiji.

Ghana’s Olympic team started training in Rio on Friday upon arrival in Brazil for the Olympic Games.

They will be staying at the Rio Olympic Village for the duration of the Games.
