The Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Kojo Bonsu has rendered unqualified apology to the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and chiefs in the Ashanti region, over what the chiefs describe as a “disrespectful” behavior.
In a statement issued on Friday, the KMA boss remorsefully declared, “I wish to render an unqualified apology to Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Nananom for any actions and inactions on my part, which may have incurred their displeasure.”
The Asanteman Council on Monday asked President John Mahama to immediately dismiss him for disrespecting the council.
Members of the council were angry about the failure of Kojo Bonsu to appear in person when he was summoned over a letter he wrote to question the legitimacy of a chief on Kejetia market project.
There has been a strained relationship between him and some residents of Kumasi as he has in recent times come under intense criticisms for his style of leadership.
But in his apology letter, Mr. Kojo Bonsu recalled the good relationship he has had with the chiefs and the tremendous support they have given him since his appointment as the mayor of KMA.
“We have developed a healthy working relationship as stakeholders in the collective pursuit of the development, peace and progress of the Kumasi Metropolis.
“I shall therefore continue to cherish my relationship with Nananom and take all the necessary traditional steps to repair and protect same.”
