Ghana’s Electoral Commission says less than half of the names deleted from the voters register because they registered with the National Health Insurance cards have re-registered.
The EC says 22,107 people out of the 56,772 successfully went through the process of re-registering after the ten day period given for them to do so.
Addressing the media after the 10 day period, Head of Communications at the Electoral Commission, Eric Dzakpasu said there will not be an extension of the re-registration exercise.
The commission on July 18, 2016 began the exhibition and re-registration exercise nationwide. Names of persons deleted were published in the dailies and the district offices of commission so that they can check and go through the exercise of re-registering within a 10 day window.
The EC bemoaned the low turn out during the exercise and intensified its public awareness but less than half of the persons have been captured and verified to take part in the upcoming December 7 elections.
The EC deleted the names from the voters register following the Supreme Courts order indicating that the current register was faulty.
