President John Dramani Mahama has promised to install electricity meters in each house in Abura in the Cape Coast north constituency of the Central Region.
“A lot of people don’t have meters and a lot of houses share one meter. I have directed that they give you 1,500 meters so that every house will have its meter for peace to prevail,” President Mahama told the people of Abura in Twi on the second day of his tour of the Central Region.
The president based his promise on what he said has been the electricity challenge facing the people in the area.
He said most buildings in the area share electricity meters with other structures; something he said was not the best. He was optimistic that the practice will in no time be a thing of the past.
At another mini rally at Duakor, an Ewe and fishing Community near the University of Cape Coast, also in the Cape Coast North Constituency, President Mahama promised the people 300 meters.
He also asked the University to engage the community for research as well as give out scholarships the people of the area.
Minister for Trade and Industry, Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, said the NDC government has increased the electrical energy of the country from 2500 to 4000 megawatts extending power to 80 percent of the Ghanaian people.
