President John Dramani Mahama directed the Ghana Air Force three days ago to evacuate Dr David Abdulai Fuseini to Accra for optimal medical care, a Deputy Minister of Health has disclosed.

Dr Victor Bampoe in a post on social media said the ailing Dr Abdulai is already in Accra “and currently receiving the care he needs”.

Dr Abdulai is reported to have been diagnosed with Stage 4 thyroid cancer last May. The ailment is said to be aggressive and spreading as each day goes by.

But the ‘Mad Doctor’, as he is affectionately called, is well known for his free medical service in Tamale which spans over two decades. He has received several acclaims for his service.

A social media campaign was launched to raise funds not only for his radiation therapy but also to keep his two health clinics in operation.

Mobile money and bank accounts have been made available for the fundraising.

The Deputy Health Minister stated that in spite of President Mahama’s intervention,  the fund-raising should continue.
