Majority Leader Alban Sumana Kinsford Bagbin has touted the achievement of the John Mahama-led government in the past four years, saying it is the trump card to a one-touch victory in the 2016 elections.

According to the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo Constieuncy in the Upper West Region, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is more formidable and united going into the December 7 election.

This has been like never before, he said.

Mr Bagbin made these remarks at the launch of the 2016 campaign of the ruling party.

The event took place at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday, August 14.

The campaign has been themed ‘Changing Lives…Transforming Ghana’.

“We only have to guard against complacency,” Mr Bagbin warned.

He said the president is in a pole position to win the upcoming elections without worries of a run-off.

“It is obvious His Excellence will receive a one-touch victory from Ghanaians,” the Majority Leader said, much to welcoming cheers from the teeming supporters.

He was, however, critical of members who use clichés such as ‘I want to save the party from defeat in the constituency’ to sometimes run independent when they lose primaries.

“True loyal members of the party will not do that.”

He said those members put their parochial interest above the party’s.

He admonished the party to target not less than two-thirds majority in Parliament, claiming it has become imperative given recent developments.

He blamed the rejection of the Constituency Amendment Bill by Parliament on the fact that the minority still has a significant number in the House.
