The embattled CEO of the now-defunct gold dealership, Menzgold, Nana Appiah Mensah popularly known as NAM 1 has sued renowned broadcast journalist Bridget Otoo for defamation and is seeking GH¢1 million in damages.
Bridget Otoo has been critical of Nana Appiah Mensah, constantly accusing him of defrauding Ghanaians through his Menzgold business. In a social media post on October 21, 2023, Otoo called Mensah a “fraudster” and a “scammer.”
According to the plaintiff, Nana Appiah Mensah, in a writ of summons that has been shared widely on social media, on the 21st day of October 2023 at 7:26 am, while his criminal case was still pending before the court for hearing, Bridget Otoo, the defendant posted the following defamatory comments on her X (formerly Twitter) handle.
“In which country will a fraudster like @Nam-the-patriot be allowed to do this? This is a form of bribe for the Police who are to arrest him to distribute money on his behalf!
Smh F NAM1 is a scammer #Jail him #Occupy Julorbi House”.
According to the Plaintiff (Nana Appiah Mensah), the defendant’s (Bridget Otoo) statement is understood to mean the Plaintiff (Nana Appiah Mensah) is a criminal, who makes money through deceit by scamming, the Plaintiff is a fraudster, the Plaintiff is a scammer dishonest person and deceiver of the public to make money.
The Plaintiff (Nana Appiah Mensah) says, that whether the Plaintiff is a fraudster and scammer is a matter pending before a court of competent jurisdiction yet to be decided and does not lie in the mouth of the Defendant (Bridget Otoo) to refer to the Plaintiff as a fraudster and a scammer.
The Plaintiff (Nana Appiah Mensah) says he has suffered great damage to his character and reputation by being portrayed as a fraudster and scammer in the eyes of right-thinking members of society and his business partners worldwide.
Plaintiff is therefore asking for One Million Ghana Cedis (GHC1,000,000) in damages for defamation, a perpetual injunction restraining the Defendant from publishing any further defamatory
material against Plaintiff, an order directed at Defendant to retract and render an unqualified apology to Plaintiff on the same platform, and an order to pull down any defamatory statement made against Plaintiff on her social media handles.
