The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea says the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills had serious health challenges that the former president could not even recognize him when the two met in Kyebi in the Eastern.

Lawyer Atta Akyea was contributing to a discussion on 3FM/TV3’s New Day, Saturday, on a publication that purports to have intercepted Nana Akufo-Addo’s medical records, which suggested that he is seriously sick

“I can tell you [that] at Kyebi, he [Prof. Mills] couldn’t see me. It took one of the ladies to say ‘Atta Akyea is the one greeting you.’ I’m telling you. I’m not lying,” he said.

Atta Akyea remarked, “We are aware that even our former President who passed on, may his soul rest in peace, had serious health challenges. I can tell you for a fact. So, what are talking about? And he said I have to run to make Ghanaian happy … he was challenged seriously he had to run at the airport.

“Akufo-Addo, with all due respect, I have campaigned with him. Akufo-Addo’s energy is phenomenal. He has never had the benefit of the presidential jet and helicopters that are taking the young man around.”

Answering a question on whether the nation has learnt a lesson from the demise of Professor Mills, Mr. Atta Akyea said he was not sure about that.

He, however, emphasized that “whenever a president is not well and there is clear evidence that he is not well, there is no need to pretend. I believe in that so much.”
