A professor at the Kumasi Polytechnic says the ministers of state who signed the pardon book for the release of the Montie trio “are very bad example to the nation”.
Professor Alexander Ayogyam was especially disappointment in the Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister, Nana Oye Lithur. He is surprised “Nana Oye Lithur who is a lawyer and Minister of Children would sign such a book”.
Some Ministers of state such as the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare; Foreign Affairs, Hanna Tetteh; Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman for Education, a Deputy Education Minister in charge of Tertiary, Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, Valerie Sawyerr, among others, have signed the petition book to persuade President John Dramani Mahama to pardon the two imprisoned Montie FM panelists and the host.
Alistair Nelson of Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), Godwin Ako Gunn of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe, the host, are currently languishing in jail after they were sentenced to four months imprisonment by the Supreme Court. They were found guilty of contempt charges after they threatened to kill the judges of the Supreme Court.
The pardon book, opened by a group calling itself the Research and Advocacy Platform (RAP), has garnered several signatures including those of high-profile government officials, and this according to Prof Ayogyam, could send wrong signals to children who are future leaders of this country.
“Children are learning from these ministers of state. The future children who are learning to become someone in the country in the future are being taught by these ministers of state to commit crimes so these ministers don’t deserve to be ministers”, Prof Ayogyam told Onua FM’s Yen Sempa hosted by Bright Asempa on Monday.
He explained that “as human beings, you think of whatever you do but these ministers didn’t think about their actions”.
