The lawyer for the jailed Montie 3 has confirmed to TV3 that his clients have paid the fines slapped on them by the Supreme Court over their contempt case which landed them in trouble.
The 3 have been jailed for 4 months and fined to GHC 10,000 cedis each making it GHC 30,000 and the owners are also to pay GHC 60,000 and present a written policy on how they intend to guard against unsavoury comments on their platform.
The total amount of GHC 90,000 was to be paid by close of Thursday July 28, 2016, just about twenty four hours after the sentencing.
Speaking in an interview with TV3, Godwin Tamakloe, lawyer for the 3 convicts said “my clients have paid all the monies already.
“Today we were able to put the monies together. We paid to the court GHC 90,000 together with the other order on the program lineup. We’ve done that.”
Meanwhile a section of the populace seems divided over the sentence. Whiles others say the court was harsh in its judgment, others are of the opinion that the sanction should have been stiffer.
The 3 men are to spend 4 months in jail and pay an additional GHC 10,000. Failure to pay the money would mean they had to stay an extra one month in jail.
A mini poll of about 63 respondents had 57% of them saying they would prefer spending the extra month behind bars and keep the money rather than pay.
If you were one of the jailed #Montie 3, will U pay the additional GHC10,000 or serve the extra 1 month prison term?
