Recall of MPs over impeachment of Mahama to cost Ghana hugely

Parliament

Members of Parliament are going to be paid various sums of monies as transport fares to return to the house following the emergency summoning by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Doe Adjaho.

The MPs have been recalled to parliament to deliberate over the impeachment proposal of President John Mahama over the Ford car gift given him by a Burkinabe contractor, Gibril Kanazoe.

Members of Parliament are expected back on the floor on Thursday September 1, 2016 to discuss one agenda: Impeachment of President Mahama over the Ford car gift.

Information reaching 3news.com indicate that some Members of Parliament who were out of the country have started arriving for the August 1 summons.

Those campaigning in their various constituencies are also expected to cut short their campaigns to come back to the house.

However those coming from some constituencies in the Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions are expected to be paid about GHC 2000 as transport fairs.

All other MP’s depending on the distance they may travel, would also be paid. This has been described by some Majority MP’s as a waste of finances.

MPs on the majority side of the house according to sources are bent on blocking the proposal from seeing the light of day.

Minority MPs have also indicated that they have fresh evidence to back the impeachment proposal which is being led by the minority leader, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

In an interview with Joy Fm, Mr. Mensah Bonsu asked “when was the decision taken to place the car in the presidential pool? What is the evidence that it is in the presidential pool? When was it added to the pool?

“There are many lingering issues and we just want answers, it is not because we have any personal issues with the president.”

Over a hundred MPs on the minority side are believed to have signed the petition which constitutionally forced the speaker to recall the MPs.
