Less than a day-old baby has mysteriously disappeared from her mother’s lap at night in a maternity home at Atebubu in the Brong Ahafo Region of Ghana.

Mother of the baby, 20-year old Grace Kuma, and her sister, were said to have gone unconscious after drinking tea and bread with fried egg bought them by the baby’s father.

According to Grace who is a petty trader, she reported to Auntie Joe’s Maternity Home Tuesday at about 6:00am when she experienced the signs of delivery, and it was until midnight that she was finally delivered of a baby boy.

She told Accra-based Onua 95.1FM that she was moved from the delivery room to another room in the Home with the baby where her sister also joined them.

Grace claimed officials of the facility advised her to take the tea and the bread with the egg her husband, Peter Boakye, bought her so that she could sleep soundly. She said she obliged and took the food together with her sister.
After taking the tea, she claimed they fell asleep without knowing and only woke up at about 2:00am Wednesday to find the baby missing from her lap where she kept it.

“We could not even realise the time and how we fell asleep. When we woke up, the lights in the Maternity Home had been put off and they had opened the gate. I turned to where the baby was lying but he was not there,” Grace said in Twi

She said they quickly alerted Auntie Joe and the woman who delivered her of the baby, and a search was conducted at the room and the Home but could not find the baby.

Grace and some women in the area are shock about the sudden disappearance of the baby while the management of the Auntie Joe’s Home are also hot over the matter which has since been reported to the Police in Atebubu for investigations.
