Eight sub-committees have been inaugurated at the executive council level of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) in the first meeting of the year on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at the Ange Hill Hotel in Accra.

At the inauguration, the boss of NALAG stated that members of these committees were selected based on their competencies and working in line with the vision and mission of the authority.

Sub-committees are; Finance and Administration, Policy and Resolutions, Economic Development, Environment, Sanitation, and Tourism, Gender and Development, International Relations and Public Relations, and the newly added Legal Reforms and Welfare.

According to the NALAG boss, Mr. Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh, the newly elected sub-committee members are to do the following:

  • Develop a suitable framework for the committee and activities that will enhance the visibility of the Association at large.
  • Identify opportunities and actionable programmes of the individual committees.
  • Any other issue the Committee deems relevant to accomplish its assignment.

In an interview with Citi News, the NALAG boss said the key aim of the body is to champion the course of “decentralization in Ghana by representing the interest of Local Government (i.e. Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies – MMDAs) to central Government and by ensuring that the process leads to the empowerment of local government institutions and vibrant civil society that would be capable of delivering efficient, effective and sustainable public service to the population at large.
