Renowned actress and TV host, Nana Ama McBrown, has donated Ghc 10,000 to the Crime Check Foundation (CCF) in support of its petty offenders project, aiming to facilitate the release of prisoners.
During a segment on her cooking show, ‘McBrown’s Kitchen,’ she presented the cheque to CCF’s Executive Director, Ibrahim Oppong Kwarteng, alongside a female ex-convict. Inspired by the ex-convict’s story shared on the show, McBrown made the generous contribution to assist other inmates.
The presence of the ex-convict on the program underscores the importance of avoiding stigma, and allowing individuals to integrate into society after serving their sentences. CCF’s fine-paying scheme aids prisoners facing minimal sentences who cannot afford court fines, contributing to prison decongestion. The Foundation actively advocates for alternative sentencing for individuals involved in minor offenses.
