Reports available to KwasiAboagyeLive.com indicate that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided to sponsor Peace FM presenter Kwabena Marfo to contest the Cape Coast North constituency.
It follows reports of confusion being caused by the party’s parliamentary candidate Kwamina Mintah Nyarku.
According to reports, there are also allegations of double registration being leveled against him.
Kwamina appears to have let the party down with several people accusing him of creating problems for the party with his desire to become a Member of Parliament.
Sources say the New Patriotic Party is getting ready to file a case against Kwamina and the NDC to stop him from contesting in the December 7 elections.
He was reportedly challenged for providing wrong information about where he resided during the voter’s registration exercise.
The Electoral Commission (EC) seized Kwamina’s voter’s ID making it impossible for him to contest for the seat.
He was barred from taking part in any national elections for five years.
Not happy about the decision, he filed a challenge at the Cape Coast High Court but the matter was dismissed by the judge Her Ladyship Patience Mills Tetteh.
Not content with the court’s decision, he filed for a judicial review at a High court in Accra.
The court, presided over by Justice Stephen Oppong ordered the Electoral Commission to release Kwamina’s voter ID to him but he rejected the card after it was returned to him saying his name was still not in the books of the EC.
After he was able to register again on October 1 when the EC opened a day’s registration, KwasiAboagyeLive.com has gathered that the NPP is still planning to drag the issue to court alleging double registration and change of residency by the parliamentary candidate.
Now, with all these problems, the NDC has planned to replace Kwamina with Kwabena Marfo and sponsor him to run as an independent candidate.
At a meeting with the flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, they concluded that with Kwabena Marfo’s popularity in the area, he can win the seat easily.
Kwabena Marfo who was unaware that his name had come up when KwasiAboagyeLive.com called him to confirm told us to give him some time to crosscheck.
