The governing National Democratic Congress has been accused of stockpiling arms with the intention to cause mayhem in the Northern region.

The Northern Regional Chairman of the main opposition New Patriotic Party, Bugri Naabu who made the allegation, pointed fingers at the Regional Minister as the brain behind the nefarious activity. A “serious” allegation the NDC describes as a figment of the accusers imagination.

He told the media on Tuesday that government quickly ought to step in and “bring the minister to book”.

He warned that the minister would not be spared if nothing is done to forestall any possible conflict.

“If they bring him to come and bring conflict in the Northern region, then the conflict will come, [but] he cannot go to Walewale,” Bugri Naabu stated.

He accused the Minister of distributing AK47 riffles to some hoodlums in Walawle to attack “our boys”.

He also claimed the minister ordered his guys to use cutlass on NPP supporters and even caused a car to run over a boy who ended up with a broken leg.

“We should fight for our life,” the regional chairman also rallied his people to defend themselves.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Northern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Mr Halid Abdul-Rauf told Joy News Bugri Naabu’s claim is a “figment of his own imagination”.

He was emphatic that the NDC “doesn’t need to stockpile arms to win” in the north, a region the party has been winning since 1992.

He narrated what transpired in Walewale when supporters of the two parties clashed, insisting “what happened can’t pass for stockpiling of arms”.

According to him, the NDC has rather been preaching to their supporters to learn to co-exist with one another in peace.
