Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region have locked up the party’s constituency office to demand the reinstatement of their suspended chairman, Emmanuel De-Graft Anokye.
The supporters and constituency executives of the of the party have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to regional and national party leaders to reinstate Mr Ankoye who was suspended over alleged misappropriation of party funds.
At one of a series of protests, the group described the suspension as “detrimental” and “fatal” to the party’s course to retain power and achieve the target of one million votes in Ashanti region.
They are thus demanding that the party reinstate the chairman or face their wrath in the build up to the presidential election. But spokesperson of the aggrieved supporters, Taufic Mohammed, has described the claim as unsubstantiated and false.
“It must be put on record that the misappropriation of party cash allegation leveled against this honourable and hardworking gentleman is unsubstantiated, petty and lacks merit,” he said.
The group is worried the suspension will negatively affect the NDC’s electoral performance in Election 2016.
They believe the reinstatement of Mr De-Graft Anokye will ease the responsibilities on district chief executive for Bosomtwe, Veronica Antwi Adjei, who also doubles as the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the area.
