Incumbent Member of Parliament for Manhyia North constituency, Collins Owusu Amankwaa, has described as a mirage, the National Democratic Congress’ projected ‘One Million Votes’ in the Ashanti Region.
According to the legislator, the John Mahama-led government has demonstrated a monumental failure under President John Mahama, which he argued, will cause the defeat of the party in this year’s December 7 general elections.
The NDC is targeting a million votes to consolidate their gains in Ashanti region, which has been tagged as the electoral world bank of the NPP.
But addressing his constituents during a walk dubbed “Ghana Needs Nana Addo”, Mr Amankwaa said: “They [NDC] can move from house to house, the good people of the Ashanti region have made their decision and I know the NDC would be rejected,”
He told 3News the flag-bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has the competency to restore the confidence of the Ghanaian economy.
He observed unemployment is sky-rocketing, pushing young people to engage in social vices to make ends meet.
“The NPP is the only party that creates tangible jobs for the people, we have track records,” he stated.
According to Mr. Owusu Amankwaa, the administration of Nana Akufo-Addo would restore the derailed economy, saying, “Cost of living is unbearable, Nana Addo has the panacea to this problem,” he claimed.
Nana Akufo-Addo polled a total of 1,219,530 representing 72.53 per cent in the Ashanti region in his first attempt at the presidency in the 2008 elections. The NDC’s late Prof. John Evans Atta-Mills had 437,243 votes representing 26.01 per cent.
In the presidential results of the 2012 elections in the Ashanti region, Nana Akufo-Addo garnered 1,531,152 votes representing 70.86 per cent, while the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama had a total of 612,616 votes, representing 28.35 per cent.
