Nigeria begins fresh bid to rescue Chibok girls

chibok-girlsThe Federal Government has announced that it has launched fresh bid to rescue the Chibok girls. The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, announced the new move at a media briefing in Abuja on Friday.

The minister said previous efforts to bring back the girls were frustrated by in fighting among the insurgents and middle men, who ‎exploited the process for monetary gains.

On 14 April 2014, Boko Haram militants attacked a government secondary boarding school in Chibok, Borno state, where 276 girls from surrounding areas had gone to take exams, were abducted.

Their kidnapping sparked one of the biggest global social media campaigns, with tweeters using the hashtag #BringBackOurGirls.

But most of the girls are still missing, the BBC reported.
