Former President Jerry John Rawlings has charged supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which he founded, to be wary of the “mannerisms” of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).
He said the NPP has been in existence for long albeit under different identities.
Therefore, if the NDC chooses to fight them in their turf, Mr Rawlings argues, the party will be defeated.
“It is important that we fight them on our turf,” he stressed.
The retired flight lieutenant expressed these on Sunday, August 14 at the launch of the 2016 campaign of the NDC.
The event was held at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in the Central Region.
In an address he warned would be devoid of his characteristic ‘Booms’, the former president appealed to supporters not to allow unnecessary provocation during the electioneering period.
He indulged all gathered to reserve his comments till after the December 7 elections.
“There are certain weaknesses that we need to deal with,” he stated.
Former President Rawlings asked all to espouse the principles that led to the formation of the party.
He said if those principles are upheld “no one can defeat us”.
“We will ride and override any obstacle as we did in the past.”
JJ Rawlings, as he was affectionately called in his AFRC/PNDC days, called for a “clean, clear” campaign.
