A member of the communications team of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Akropong has been shot, 3news.com has gathered, at his home.
Kojo Owusu Afriyie is said to have been shot by armed robbers Monday dawn while watching the Copa America Centenario final.
The incident happened at Pokuase, where the party official was visiting his family.
Confirming the incident on TV3’s Midday Live on Monday, Kojo Asiedu Odei, NPP’s head of communication at Akropong, said his colleague was shot at his shoulder in his attempt to block the robbers’ entry to his home.
He was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital’s Emergency Unit.
“He is well,” Mr Asiedu Odei stressed.
He, however, expressed suspicion that the robbers might have been contracted to perpetrate the crime.
“We commiserate with the family,” he said.
