The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is targeting 90 per cent of votes in the Ashanti Region, which is considered the world bank of the party, in the upcoming December 7 general elections.
It is also seeking to score 10 per cent in the parliamentary elections by sweeping all the 47 constituencies in the Region, Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako told Onua FM.
“Our target in the region is 90 per cent and not 80per cent as Nana Akufo-Addo said,” he said on Yen Sempa Tuesday morning.
Three-time flag-bearer of NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, had said the party is likely to win power to govern the country in the upcoming December 7 general election, if it secures 80 per cent of the total votes in the Ashanti Region.
“The polls going on in Ashanti Region are encouraging but we all know that if we hit 80 per cent of the popular votes in Ashanti, we have one and a half feet in the door of Jubilee House. So I’m begging you, let us make this year 2016, the year of the elephant,” Akufo-Addo said.
This was when he addressed all the 47 constituency executives and parliamentary candidates in the Ashanti Region on Monday.
But Mr Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, said the 90 per cent is something the party can easily clinch for the victory of Nana Akufo-Addo in the 2016 elections.
