The current Black Stars players are greedy and do not have the nation at heart, retired army general Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has said.
Brigadier-General Nunoo Mensah, who is the Head of the Human Security at the National Security, says the current crop of players are only playing to milk the nation unlike in the olden days when Dr. Kwame Nkrumah made sure the players played for nation from heart.
Brigadier-General (rtd) Nunoo-Mensah recalled how “former Black Star players such as Rev Osei Kofi, Kwame Adarkwa, Wilberforce Nfum, Aggrey Fynn among others were ready to die for Ghana”.
“That is why they were able to win in four consecutive times, 1963, 1965, 1978 and 1982 for the nation.”
He said these players played with patriotism “but today, young people are making money in football because today’s players are paid huge sums of money from the state coffers”.
The former National Security Advisor said: “Dr. Kwame Nkrumah will make you die for Ghana but today, nobody is ready to serve Ghana.
“They are only interested in money and that is killing the nation.”
Winning bonuses for each player of the Black Stars is currently $8,000, which is different from an appearance fee for a tournament.
