The man who lost an eye a year ago during a voters’ register protest march in Accra, has accused some unnamed National Democratic Congress supporters of instigating his wife to divorce him.

Thirty-seven year old Justice Adzakuma claimed some NDC supporters in his neighbourhood approached his wife to convince her to divorce him because he had lost his eye due to the New Patriotic Party’s action.

“She came to tell me and I was sad and bitter”, he told Onua FM Friday, exactly a year after the protest march organised by pro NPP group, Let My Vote Count Alliance (LMVCA) to push for a new voters’ register for the 2016 elections.

The peaceful protest turned violent midway after the group were said to have changed the Police approved route causing the Police to allegedly brutalise some of the protestors.

The Police used brute force, including alleged gunshots and firing of water cannons, teargas and whipping of the protestors in an attempt to disperse them.

A stray bullet was said to have hit Adzakuma in the left eye causing its destruction. He has since had a surgery to replace the lost eye but doctors say he cannot see with his left eye again. It was sponsored by the NPP.

According to Adzakuma, after doctors concluded he will not be able to see with his left eye again, some NDC supporters started to influence his wife to leave him because he was ‘blind’ but said they could not succeed.

He told Onua FM that the fate he suffered as a result of the protest will not prevent him from quitting politics saying, “when you board a car and it is involved in an accident, you will not say u will not board car again”.

Adzakuma said since their push for a new voters’ register did not succeed “I am appealing for a free, fair and credible elections in December”.

The 37-year-old said his wish is for the NPP to win the December 7 general elections so he could get help “because when I had all my eyes, I felt fine but now that one eye is not seeing, I am careful about whatever I am doing”.
