The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur has called on Muslims women to preach peace to their husbands and children as the country goes to polls on December 7.
According to her, Ghana has been acknowledged as a peace-loving nation, having placed sixth (6) in Africa in the Global Peace index (GPI) and 54th worldwide out of 162 countries sampled. There is the need to protect such peace, she admonished the women.
She was speaking at the 37th Annual Convention of Lajna Imaillah (Ahmadiyya Muslim Women Association) on the theme “Peaceful Co-Existence in Our Contemporary Society, A Concern for All” on Saturday in Kumasi T.I Amass. She said when people are able to live together despite their differences they work towards a just, free, peaceful and democratic society.
Mrs. Oye Lithur reminded the gathering not to allow their political affiliation to destroy the peaceful co-existence currently being enjoyed in the country, adding that we are one people with different ideas on how we want our country to develop.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Mrs. Marietta Brew Appiah Oppong who represented the First Lady, Lordina Mahama reiterated the need for parents to educate their children on how to peacefully co-exist with all people, citing nations such as Liberia, Rwanda, and Ivory Coast who suffered from many years of war because of their inability to peacefully co-exist.
She observed that learning each other’s language and culture would also go a long way to help people to co-exist.
She assured the people that government will continue to preach peace and ensure that all security measures are put in place before, during and after the elections.
“It is our duty to educate our children as well as our husbands not to involve themselves in any violent act,” he added.
