Parliament has for the first time read the amendment bill proposed to change the date of presidential and parliamentary elections in Ghana.
The Constitutional Amendment Bill was presented to the legislative on Tuesday, June 28.
Speaker of Parliament Edward Doe Adjaho remarked that all the necessary checks had been done and the requirements have been complied with, thus gazetting the instrument.
He, therefore, referred it to the Council of State.
The Constitutional Amendment Bill is next expected to be studied by the Council of State for a 30-day period.
After that period, it will be brought back to the House to be finally gazetted.
The amendment being sought by the instrument is holding of the general elections on the first Monday of the eleventh month of every election year.
If gazetted, therefore, this year’s will be held on November 7 while 2020’s will be held on November 2, 2020.
