Ghanaian born Hollywood Actor Abraham Attah who was recently outdoored as the Ambassador for Free SHS visited some Junior and Senior High schools in the Eastern part of Ghana.
The purpose of the visit was to have a motivational interaction with the Senior High School students and distribute TOM shoes as part of his foundation (Abraham Attah Foundation).
The last school he stopped at was Methodist Girls Senior High School. After the motivational interaction, he had a private meeting with the national winners of the Student for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) Competition who are due to travel to Ukraine in August to represent Ghana for the World Cup competition.
The Ministry of Education led by sector minister Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh on June 22, 2017 unveiled young Ghanaian actor, Abraham Attah, as an ambassador for government’s flagship programme, Free Senior High School at a short ceremony.
The Free SHS policy is one of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s flagship policy programs that helped it win power in the December 2016 polls.
Abraham Attah gained international prominence playing lead role alongside Idris Elba in the movie Beasts of No Nation directed by Emmy Award-winning Cary Fukunaga.
Playing the character ‘Agu’ who when civil war tears his family apart, is forced to join a unit of mercenary fighters and transformed into a child soldier earned Attah praise around the world.
He won Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor at Venice Film Festival 2015, ‘Best Male Lead’ award at the 2016 Independent Spirit Awards, and also Rising Star Award’ at the Black Film Critics Circle (BFCC). The award scheme called Attah’s role as “one of the strongest and most phenomenal we have ever seen” and added that he had “a very bright future ahead of him”.
