The Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested two unnamed persons who hurled stones at President Mahama’s convoy in Kumasi.

The President on his second of the “Accounting to the People Tour” in the region was met by pockets of hostile residents who hooted at him.

Reports reaching 3news.com indicated that the people embedded themselves in enthusiastic supporters of the president who had lined up on some streets to welcome and cheer Mr. Mahama on.

One person was reportedly injured by two of the aggressors who went to the extreme of throwing stones at the presidential convoy.

It is unclear what motivated the two but the governing National Democratic Congress in the region is pointing accusing fingers at the opposition New Patriotic Party.

The Ashanti Region is the stronghold of the opposition.

The Regional Secretary of the governing party, Raymond Tandoh told the media that officials of the NPP in the Ejisu constituency were part of those who hooted at the president.

“It is quite unfortunate and we are going to take the matter up…It is the NPP of course. The youth organiser of the NPP has spoken that he was part of the group. So who else?” Mr. Tandoh claimed.

The attack however did not disrupt the president’s activities for the day.
