A police officer, Sergeant Titus Avoka Azasiyande, was found shot dead in the early hours of Thursday, July 13 at Tano Forest checkpoint in the Ashanti Region.
His lifeless body was spotted by a timber truck driver who was driving from Kasapin towards Bediako.
The driver contacted the police, who arrived at the scene and found Azasiyande’s body on top of his AK-47 rifle. He had been shot once in the head, and his safety catch was fully open. An empty shell was lying beside him.
Azasiyande’s Vivo mobile phone, food wrapped in a polythene bag, and his Honda motorbike were also found at the scene. The police have not yet made any arrests, but they are investigating the incident.
In a statement, Inspector Emmanuel Deku, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO, said that the police are “deeply saddened” by Azasiyande’s death. He said that the police are “committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.”
