Six persons have been arrested in the Ashanti Region for forging documents to aid their qualification to be enlisted in the on-going police recruitment exercise.

The suspects, according to the police, would be prosecuted to serve as deterrent to other recruits.

Thousands of applicants thronged the Ashanti Region Police Training School at Patase in Kumasi to participate in the five-day police recruitment exercise.

The exercise, which started at 9:00am, saw some prospective applicants arriving at the venue as early as 7:00am.

ACP Dr Sayibu Gariba, who is In charge of the Ashanti Region enlistment team, said some tampered with their WASSCE results whilst others reduced their age.

“We have arrested 6 persons who falsify their documents and they shall be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law because it is a crime to forge documents.”

ACP Gariba said the exercise has been smooth and hopes it ends successfully.

About 4,500 applicants are expected to participate in the exercise in the Ashanti Region.

All the applicants will go through body selection and documentation on Day One. Applicants who sail through the first stage will undertake an aptitude test.

On the first day of the exercise, some applicants had their dream of becoming police officers cut short after being disqualified based on age and height.

The required height for males is 5 feet 8 inches and that of female applicants is 5 feet 4 inches.

Some of the unhappy applicants called for a review of the height requirement.

A frustrated applicant Kwadwo Wiredu said it is unfair for him to be disqualified just because of height.

He called on the police administration to consider reviewing the height requirement to enable people who are challenged in height but are intelligent to enrol in the Ghana Police Service.
