POPGIS appeals for improved infrastructure at 40th-anniversary launch

Authorities of the Prince of Peace Girls Senior High School (POPGIS) have called for support to improve infrastructure to enhance teaching and learning.

According to management, the school is currently in dire need of classrooms, ICT, and a Science Laboratory.

The headmistress of the school, Adelaide Biyaa-Powers who spoke during the launch of the school’s 40th-anniversary celebrations said the high enrolment due to the Free SHS policy has brought pressure on existing infrastructure.

She appealed for support to build more classrooms, the expansion of the dining hall, and construct a science laboratory to enable the school to venture into science-related courses.

“The school needs a lot of assistance, especially with the classrooms because they are small in size. The Government has taken over the management of the school and we have building facilities now. With the Free SHS too, the population keeps increasing and we have limited infrastructure to contain the students”, she said

The headmistress also spent time advising students to concentrate on their studies and eschew acts that could affect their future.

Actress and Showbiz personality, Felicity Ama Agyemang known in the industry as Nana Ama McBrown who is one of the old girls of the school donated an amount of GH¢10,000 and also pledged further support to help improve infrastructure in the school.

She took some time at the event to counsel the continuing students and advised them not to associate with bad peers.

She also stressed that girl child education was crucial and asked the students to take advantage of the investment their parents were making to learn hard to become better future leaders.

Emeritus Archbishop Peter Akwasi Sarpong who delivered the keynote address charged the students to always live a holy life.

Established in October 1982, the Prince of Peace Girls SHS has churned out students who are currently occupying both public and private institutions in the country’s workforce.
