A political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Isaac Owusu Mensah says vice president Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur should cease creating political tension in the country and rather preach peace ahead of the 2016 general elections.

The vice president addressing party supporters in the Asawaase constituency in the Ashanti region suggested some opponents of the National Democratic Congress are plotting to rig this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7.

In a statement that has generated a lot of controversy, the vice president urged the NDC supporters and sympathizers to be extra vigilant on the day of the elections in order to safeguard the interest of the party.

Speaking to 3FM, Dr. Owusu Mensah said if the vice president has any hint of anyone planning to rig the elections, he should make it public.

According to Dr. Mensah, the vice president’s comments simply means there will be a lot of tension leading to the polls which he deems will be a worry and a very serious concern to all Ghanaians.

“I know issues are raised on political platforms but sensitive issues like rigging the election is very dangerous and it also gives the impression that there is something that the vice president knows that we Ghanaians do not know so it’s important that he puts it in the public domain so the security services can take a look at it”.
