The Kumasi traditional council has given the Presidency a one week ultimatum to dismiss the metropolitan chief executive of Kumasi, Kojo Bonsu.
Council members renewed their resolve to get the mayor out at a meeting on Monday.
The Kumasi traditional council last week demanded that the government sacked the Kumasi mayor, accusing him of gross disrespect to the traditional authority.
At an emergency meeting at the Manhyia palace, the chiefs unanimously accused Kojo Bonsu of disrespecting them on several occasions, stressing that they have had enough of his gross insubordination.
TV3’s Ashanti Regional correspondent, Benjamin Aidoo reports that the chiefs have already performed the necessary traditional rituals, including the slaughtering of a sheep, to signify their resolve not to continue working with Kojo Bonsu as KMA chief executive.
At Monday’s meeting, the council debunked media reports that Kojo Bonsu had been asked to slaughter a number of sheep to appease them.
They are hopeful the president would heed their call to appoint a new metropolitan chief executive for kumasi.
The Asafohene and Akwamuhene of Otumfour, Acheamfour Kwame Awuah, who presided over the meeting, cautioned Kojo Bonsu against stepping foot at the Manhyia palace in his capacity as the Kumasi Mayor.
