Pressure mounts on Kennedy Agyapong as more women protest against him

Some women in the Central Region have joined calls for the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, to retract and apologise to Ghanaian women for his unsavoury comments against the Chair of the Electoral Commission, Ms Charlotte Osei.

Hundreds of them  on Wednesday morning took to the streets of Mankesim in the Mfantsiman District to register their displeasure over the MPs comment suggesting that that Ms Osei secured her job through sexual favours.

They held placards with the inscriptions: ” This nonsense must stop; Kennedy Agyapong is a bad MP; Mr Speaker say something; Women must be accorded with dignity; Kennedy must apologize,” among others.

The women served notice they would stage more protests should the MP fail to publicly retract and apologise Ms Osei and Ghanaian women in general.

They are expected to present a petition to the president of the Central Regional Queen  Mothers’ Association, Nana Ama Amissah who is also  the Queen Mother of the Mankessim Traditional area.

Already, pressure is mounting on the MP to apologise for his comments while Parliament is being urged to call him to order.

Women groups in the Western and Greater Accra regions have so far staged similar demonstrations and more in other regions are expected to also join in mounting pressure on the outspoken MP.
