President John Dramani Mahama is asking Ghanaians for a final four-year term in order to complete the 200 community day senior high schools he promised.
During the 2012 electioneering campaign, President Mahama promised to build that number of schools within four years.
However, it is becoming clear that not all can be completed before the end of 2016.
Speaking at the commissioning of the Abodoman SHS in the Central Region on Monday, September 5, President Mahama said 123 out of the 200 are currently under construction.
“And that means the Central Region will receive additional secondary schools among the remaining over 70 schools that we shall build,” he told the gathering.
He said 14 of the community day schools will be built in the Central Region, where he begins a five-day campaign tour.
Among the communities in the Region to have these schools are Ekumfi, Upper Denkyira West, Effutu, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem, Agona East, Mfantsiman and Awutu Senya West.
“And in the next term of office Central Region is going to receive several amongst the remaining secondary schools we are yet to build.”
So far, the Central Region has had two of the community day schools completed.
These are the Professor John Evans Atta Mills’ SHS in Otuam and Monday’s in Agona Abodom.
A number of these schools have already been inaugurated in the other regions.
Among them are Nchumuruman Community Day SHS in the Krachi East District, Adobewura Community Day SHS in Atwima-Mponua District, Dermaa SHS in Tano South, Abeaseman CD SHS in Pru and Bamiankor Community Day SHS, among others.
