Public sector workers get 12.5% salary increment

public-sector-workersAll public sector workers across the country will effective January next year, enjoy a 12.5 per cent base pay increment, the government has announced.

The decision was taken Tuesday at a meeting between government and all its social partners as well as the Public Services Joint Standing Negotiating Committee.

“Effective January 2017, all public sector workers will enjoy a 12.5 increase in their base pay,” Employment and Labour Minister, Haruna Iddrisu announced after the meeting.

The increment in base pay comes barely a week after government announced a 10 per cent increment in daily minimum wage after a tripartite committee meeting that included the Minister, National Employers Association and Organised Labour.

Per the 10 per cent increment, daily minimum wage was pegged at GHC8.80 as against the previous GHC8.

Mr Iddrisu welcomed the increment in base pay, saying, “For me, what is heartwarming is that it’s been fixed early to allow for the Ministry of Finance to plan and to incorporate it into the budget”.
