The Founder and the President of the All Nations University (ANU) Rev. Dr. Samuel Donkor, has called for measures to be put in place to prevent those who can afford tertiary education from accessing student loans and scholarships at the expense of the less privileged.
According to Rev. Dr. Donkor, there is no justification for free tertiary education at the expense of rapid economic development that can benefit every Ghanaian rather than a few.
Addressing graduands and parents at a convocation of the All Nations University in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital Rev. Dr. Samuel Donkor called on government and all relevant institutions to revise the current trend.
“I want to emphasise that tertiary students must pay for their fees however, government must institute measures to make soft loans available to those who cannot afford to pay their fees.”
“Over the years private universities and institutions continue to contribute their qouta to the greater good of this country and I urge the government to welcome and appreciate the contributions of private universities and there should be more public-private partnerships to reduce the burden on government”.
On his part, the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, who showed appreciation to the founder also advised the graduates to make a meaningful life out of school.
“We are proud of what you have established and my advice to you graduates is that as the dream of your founder materialised so shall yours be only if you dream and believe in that dream by working efficiently towards it”.
