Regional Communication Directors of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have urged President John Mahama to return the Ford Expedition given to him by Burkinabe contractor Djibril Kanazoe.
In a communiqué issued at the sidelines of a two-day communications workshop of the party in Kumasi, the Regional Communications Directors noted that the action by the president is an unprecedented act of corruption and must not be allowed to stand.
“A gift equivalent of 15% of the contract sum of $650, 000 awarded to the contractor is something that cannot be justified under any circumstance. If the President is taking 15% of contracts, how much are his Ministers also taking?” the communiqué asked.
On the high electricity tariffs, the regional Communication Directors urged President Mahama to come clean and clear up the confusion between him and his appointees on whether government is subsidizing electricity tariffs or not.
“The Government must be sensitive to the plight of the ordinary Ghanaian and businesses that are collapsing from the high utility tariffs.”
The communiqué reiterated the party’s intent to run ideas and issues-based campaign and urged President Mahama and the NDC to do same.
