The Revamped Ayensu Starch Factory owes the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) over 400,000 Ghana Cedis, which led to it being disconnected on Tuesday.
The Central Regional branch of Public Utilities Workers Union (PUWU) says several attempts to either retrieve the amount or sue the factory have been thwarted by “powers from above”.
The Branch Chairman, Seth Birikorang, made the revelation in an interview on Onua FM’s Yen Sempa Wednesday.
The Central Regional PUWU yesterday continued its mass disconnection of public/government agencies that are indebted to the ECG.
The team disconnected the Komenda Training College for owing GHc115, 194.70 and Ola Training College for also owing GHc348,607.03.
On Monday, the team cut power supply to the newly built Cape Coast Sports Stadium for owing GH¢71,9792.56, Cape Coast Polytechnic for owing GHc 1,017,542.04 and the Cape Coast Municipal Assembly for owing GHc83,267.50.
Mr. Birikorang said since the establishment of the Ayensu Starch Factory, for instance, bills have not been paid in full.
He explained that government’s interference in retrieving the amount has contributed to the pilling up of the bill.
Mr. Birikorang promised the union will continue its disconnection exercise until all the monies are retrieved.
