candidatesA total of 33.33 per cent of campaign claims made by presidential aspirants and key figures of the various political parties in the country have been identified as false.

According to the Media Foundation for West Africa, of the 57 claims fact-checked, 33.33 per cent were found to be false, 17.54 per cent half-truths while only 8.77 per cent “were found to be true but misleading”

“The 57 claims that were fact-checked were made by personalities including President John Mahama, Nana Akufo-Addo, Ivor Greenstreet, Dr. Edward Mahama, who are flag-bearers of the NDC, NPP, CPP, and PNC respectively. Claims made by other leading political figures were also fact-checked,” it said in a statement Monday.

It explained the latest report does not do a comparison among candidates, but said subsequent aggregated reports will “feature a trends analysis to establish which candidates are being less truthful in their campaign claims”.
