Rotary Club of Akosombo-Dam City receives charter

Rotary Club of Akosombo-Dam City has become the newest addition to the Rotary Club of 1902 District.

This comes after the club was presented with its charter to fully function and operate in being a gift to the world.

Hundreds of people from other Rotary clubs joined members of the Akosombo-Dam City club at a memorable and colourful dinner at the Bridge View Hotel in Atimpoku to witness the charter presentation and also support the young club during a fundraiser to speed up their generous engagement to the community in and around their catchment area.

In an interview with Citi News after presenting the Charter to executives of the Akosombo-Dam City club, the District Governor of Rotary International (District 9102) Victor Yaw Asante expressed optimism about the success of the Akosombo- Dam City Club and urged all members to support the executives.

“This is the 120th club of the District, District 190 which comprises clubs in Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Niger. Rotary is a club that provides services to our communities, and we would like to serve above ourselves, so this club will now start concentrating on its community of Akosombo and Atimpoku and all the people here and do service projects to ensure that the lives of the people here are improved”.

“I am really happy anytime we have new Rotarians. It means that we are adding more people to the task of doing good in the world because Rotary exists to do good and that is exactly what we have done here today. We have added a few members to make sure that the work of assisting our communities will go on, to do a lot of projects, to continue to do projects, to continue to focus on making sure that their communities improve their lives and give them whatever assistance they can to improve in the areas they may be lacking in one or two”.

On his part, the Charter President David Nyarko Glover in his acknowledgement speech after receiving the Charter on behalf of the Akosombo-Dam City Club, enumerated a number of community projects to be targeted.

“I have no doubt that we will do well as a club. Even though the Rotary Club of Akosombo Dam City is so young, I am proud to mention that we have started imagining Rotary fearlessly, and we have executed 3 projects already-i.e, we partnered Rotary Club of Ho and other clubs for a medical outreach at Amedzofe. We donated packs of drinks and water to support the Asuogyaman Health Directorate Polio immunization drive and participated in the exercise as well, we also partnered Rotary Club of Accra Airport City and other clubs in the recently ended breast cancer awareness exercise and screening.”

“Headlining our projects for the rest of the Rotary year is the renovation of the Boys Dormitory of Adjena Senior High Technical School. This is a major project which when completed will ease the accommodation burden of students in the school, and we are hoping to raise about GH¢100,00.00 for this project. Other projects we intend to undertake include the construction of 2 boreholes at Adjena SHTS, blood donation exercise and drive in Akosombo and Juapong, and Cervical Cancer Screening at Atimpoku and its environs”.

High-profile dignitaries including a delegation from the Akwamu Traditional Area all pledge their support to help the Rotary Club of Akosombo-Dam City grow and impact the community with good gestures.
