Apostle Joseph Assabil, the Achimota Area Head of The Church of Pentecost, has tasked Ghanaians to seek peace and pursue it before, during and after the 2016 elections.
Speaking at the launch of ‘Agent of Peace Campaign’ in the Achimota Area, Apostle Assabil said Ghanaians including the church has a corporate responsibility to ensure the peace and prosperity of the nation.
Quoting from Psalm 34:14, he stated: “we all have a duty to seek the wellbeing of the nation. We don’t want war. If we can only seek peace and pursue it, peace will prevail in Ghana at all times.”
He particularly appealed to politicians to avoid casting negative innuendos and vilifications against their political opponents whenever they mount their campaign platforms, noting that, the time to put an end to the politic of insults is now.
The Agent of Peace Campaign is an initiative designed by The Church of Pentecost to educate and challenge Christians across the country to become Agent of Peace during this year’s elections. The Church of Pentecost alone has over two million members, representing about eight percent of the Ghanaian population.
The colourful event which was held at Achimota Central on September 26, 2016 was attended by officials from the Electoral Commission, National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), representatives from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), as well as the clergy and the officers within the Achimota Area of The Church of Pentecost.
Apostle Assabil, tasked the pastorate and all the officers within the Achimota Area to become agents of peace within their various districts and local assemblies.
The officials of the Electoral Commission and NCCE took those present at the event through the election process. The Church has come out with a Voter’s Guide Booklet, which seeks to educate the public about the dos and don’ts of the 2016 general elections and was distributed to all those present.
The representatives from the two political parties (NDC and NPP) have also expressed their commitments to ensuring that their followers demonstrate peace in all their actions.The occasion was also used to pray for Ghana.
