Shatta Wale sets stage for ‘Nana vs Mahama’ in 2016 election

Ghana’s self acclaimed dancehall king, Shatta Wale, has released yet another track but this time, controversially narrows this year’s general election to the two main political parties in the country, the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party.

The song, titled Nana versus Mahama (It’s your decision), urges the electorates to choose between the presidential candidates of the two parties – Nana Akufo-Addo of the NPP and President John Mahama of the NDC – in the December 7 general elections.

Although the artiste has resolved not to endorse any political party or its candidate, two of his tracks, Kakai and Mahama paper, have already been adopted by the NPP and NDC respectively as their campaign song.

In the latest song, the artiste likened the NDC and NPP to himself and another popular dancehall artiste, Samini, perhaps to portray the kind of rivalry that exists between the two parties in the country.

He then urges Ghanaians not to hate each other in the name of politics, underscoring the need for peace to prevail because Ghana’s development rests with the people and not in the hands of politicians.

“…You will change your life not a politician. They [politicians] will do all that they can but you should do more. Don’t listen to anybody who wants war,” he raps in pidgin in the song, which forms part of his campaign for peace in this year’s general elections.
