The acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, Freddy Blay has described the call by the IGP to shut down social media during this year’s elections as a joke, insisting the party will oppose the decision.
The party, according to Mr. Blay, is convinced it will give advantage to the government whom they claimed is bent on exploring several mechanisms to rig this year’s elections.
The NPP acting Chairman made this statement after meeting parliamentary candidates, constituency executives and regional executives in the Upper East Region as part of his visit to monitor the progress of party activities towards the elections.
Addressing journalists in the regional capital, Bolgatanga Mr. Blay said the party is poised for power and nothing would prevent them from wining, claiming the NDC has messed up the economy.
It is for this and many other reasons why everywhere the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo visited people called for the return of the NPP into power, he stated.
On the issue of the Electoral Commission of Ghana to transmit the results of this year’s elections electronically, the acting National Chairman said the process should be transparent and fair adding that possibility of it not working well is high.
He noted that the campaign manager of the party, Peter Mac Manu and his team have been looking at the viability electronic transmission of results.
Freddy is also confident the NPP will be able to obtain at least 70% of votes in the region for both parliamentary and presidential in this year’s elections. The party is also targeting at least 60% across the 275 constituencies and about 70% victory for Nana Akufo-Addo in the presidential election, he said.
