Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes has been sentenced to six years in prison in absentia by a Dutch court for drug trafficking, as reported by Reuters.
The former Dutch international, who did not attend court hearings in Amsterdam, is unlikely to return to the Netherlands soon. Prosecutors sought a nine-year sentence, accusing Promes of involvement in smuggling 1,360kg of cocaine through the port of Antwerp in 2020.
Phone taps revealed his direct involvement in the drug shipments hidden in salt shipments from Brazil. Promes plans to appeal, denying charges of importing, exporting, transporting, and possessing drugs. In a separate case, he was sentenced to 18 months for assault in 2020.
